Overview

Camping de Lyon covers 6 hectares of a nature park in Dardilly, in the west of the Lyon conurbation. It stands near exit 33 of the A6 (Limonest, Porte de Lyon), with a bus stop a few dozen metres away that connects to the centre of Lyon and a TER station about ten minutes away on foot. Lyon Part-Dieu station is 15 km away and Perrache station 12 km; the Cité Internationale and Eurexpo are close, as is the Techlid business park.

The site is rated 4 stars and belongs to the Citykamp network of the Huttopia group. It offers 239 shaded pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes, as well as rental accommodation: chalets for 3 to 6 people, a mobile home, Toile et Bois tents, tents with a bathroom and wooden caravans. Sheets and towels are included in every unit.

As for opening, the rule is simple: the campsite welcomes guests all year round. Pitches, rental accommodation and heated washrooms remain accessible in winter, and the community centre serves as a shared lounge in every season. The site also promotes business travel, from one night to several months and up to 150 people: temporary assignments, training courses, trade fairs at Eurexpo, construction projects in the metropolitan area.

The community centre, which opens onto a terrace suspended above the site, acts as a meeting place: reception, reading corner, games, television and free wifi. It is open in every season. The campsite is also an Information Point of the Lyon Tourist Office, with a self-service internet terminal available.

The bar-café serves drinks and homemade pizzas on the terrace: every evening in summer and during the May bank holiday weekends, six evenings out of seven in May, June, September and October, as well as during the spring and autumn school holidays. Bread and croissants can be ordered for breakfast, and a small grocery corner helps out with a few basic products. A laundry runs on tokens sold at reception. You can also hire an electric bike, a barbecue, a raclette set or a crêpe maker, subject to availability.

The recently renovated washrooms are heated and open all year round; they include a baby area, a family bathroom and facilities for people with reduced mobility. Motorhome owners will find a service and waste-emptying area, free with the pitch.

The heated pool is only open from 1 May to 27 September. Outside this period it is not accessible, unlike the other services mentioned above. The supermarket is 500 m away, a bank 50 m.

Activities & entertainment

🏓Table tennis
🎯Petanque

On site, the offer stays simple: a children’s play area, table tennis tables and a pétanque court, plus the pool in season. The site is mainly designed as a base for exploring the city and its region, with a short trip by bus or TER.

Close by, there is a tennis court 400 m away, a golf course 4 km away and an equestrian centre 6 km away. Lyon then offers a huge choice: Saint-Jean Cathedral and Old Lyon with its traboules, Fourvière hill with its basilica and Roman theatres, the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Place des Terreaux with its Bartholdi fountain, and the Musée des Confluences at the tip where the Rhône and the Saône meet. Children will enjoy the Parc de la Tête d’Or and its zoo, as well as the Guignol theatre, the city’s emblematic puppet character. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

To the north, the Beaujolais and its golden-stone villages can be explored by car. Shoppers will find 2,600 shops between the Presqu’île, Part-Dieu and Confluence, and the landscaped banks of the Rhône and the Saône are ideal for a stroll.

In the off-season, the highlight is the Festival of Lights (Fête des Lumières), around 8 December, with nearly 4 million visitors and night-time shows throughout the city.
