Ten campsites are listed in the Hautes-Alpes, five of them with verified off-season opening: these are the only ones presented as open in winter or the shoulder season. They are spread across the Gapençais, the Buëch, the Embrunais and the Guillestrois, with very uneven levels of service from one site to another.
In Gap, Le Napoléon announces opening 365 days a year for its chalets, lodges and pitches; only its restaurant closes briefly, from 23 November to 6 December 2026. Lake Serre-Ponçon is 20 minutes away and the Écrins National Park offers day routes; the heated pool, however, operates only from early April to October. In Manteyer, 15 km from Gap, Au Blanc Manteau keeps its pitches open twelve months a year, with heated washrooms in winter and a bar open all year; there are no rentals and motorhomes are not admitted. In Saint-Pierre-d’Argençon, La Source welcomes guests all year with reduced service: full facilities from mid-April to mid-October, then from November to March only self-contained caravans, washrooms closed, with 6 or 10 A electricity.
In Baratier, near the Serre-Ponçon reservoir, Les Deux Bois rents heated TAOS mobile homes and cabins all year; the bare pitches open only from 14 May to 17 September 2026. In Guillestre, the chalets and hotel at Catinat Fleuri close only from 19 October to 11 November 2026, while the campsite operates from June to the end of September. In Chorges, Le Serre du Lac, 800 m from Lake Serre-Ponçon, is more of a seasonal address: its air-conditioned rentals, with heated pool and spa area, open from 20 March to 10 November.
For Aire naturelle Le Grand Pré, Les Blanchons, Saint James les Pins and Quo Vadis International, off-season opening is not confirmed: call before travelling.
Distinguish between pitches and rentals, ask whether the washrooms are heated and whether the access road is cleared of snow, and check any one-off closing dates.
In winter, the ski resorts are within reach: Risoul and Vars about 20 minutes from Catinat Fleuri, Les Orres 20 minutes and Crévoux 30 minutes from Les Deux Bois. In Gap, the Bayard plateau, 5 minutes from Le Napoléon, offers snowshoeing and snow biking, and Au Blanc Manteau highlights the snow covering its grounds.
Around Saint-Pierre-d’Argençon, 30 waymarked trails add up to 249 km of walking, from a short route of just under an hour to a 22.7 km day hike. The GRP Tour du Buëch passes through the village, with panoramas over the Dévoluy, the Vercors, the Écrins and the Montagne de Lure. In Guillestre, the Unesco-listed Fort de Mont-Dauphin is 5 minutes away, and Catinat Fleuri offers balneotherapy and a hammam for guests. Embrun holds its market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings all year, a few kilometres from the recreation lake and Lake Serre-Ponçon.
Every open all year round campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
