Seasonal campsite: our checks show it closes for several months a year. Check the opening dates before booking.
The Le Grand Pré natural campsite is in the hamlet of Pausouchon in Chorges, in the Hautes-Alpes, at an altitude of about 950 metres. It has been run since 1985 by Denise and Alain Escallier and holds the Bienvenue à la Ferme label. Lake Serre-Ponçon is 3 km away, the forest 5 km and the ski resorts 10 to 15 km.
The site is small: 25 pitches for a capacity of about 100 people, in a partly shaded meadow, 15 of them with electrical hook-up. It also has five rental units, mobile homes and chalets, offered by the week for about €330 to €540 depending on the period. Dogs and cats are allowed on the pitches.
Opening period: the pitches and their facilities are announced as open from 1 April to 30 October. The campsite is therefore closed in winter. An online guide says the rental units can be booked all year round, but this is not confirmed by a direct source: it needs to be checked with the owners before planning an off-season stay, on 04 92 50 62 06 from Monday to Saturday.
The published 2026 rates are €4.50 per adult, €3.40 per child, €4 per pitch, €3 per vehicle, €4.20 for the electrical hook-up and €2.20 per pet. A deposit of €150 is requested for rentals.
The facilities are rustic, as befits a natural campsite. The washrooms have three showers, three toilets and several washbasins, with a sink for hand-washing laundry. A washing machine, a fridge for shared use and sheet hire complete the offer. An internet area with wifi is mentioned.
A common room provides shelter on rainy days, and a table tennis table is set up there. The site has a playground with a swing for children, a pétanque court and a storage area for caravans, with annual rates of about €200 to €270 for storage. The Bienvenue à la Ferme label reflects the rural roots of the farm.
There is no swimming pool, restaurant or shop on site. For swimming, the Serre-Ponçon lake and leisure area are about 3 km away. Holiday vouchers (chèques-vacances) are accepted, and reduced rates are announced off-season.
Le Grand Pré suits families wanting a quiet stay very close to Lake Serre-Ponçon, one of the largest artificial lakes in Europe. Water sports are available about 3 km away, and fishing is also mentioned among the region’s leisure activities.
On foot or by bike, hiking trails and mountain-bike routes start from Chorges, and the forest is 5 km away. The campsite also says it offers guided walks in Chorges. Children have the playground, the swing and the pétanque court on site.
In winter, the nearest ski resorts are 10 to 15 km away, which is of interest for chalet or mobile home stays if they are indeed open at that time, something to confirm directly with the owners. In summer, the programme centres on the water and mid-mountain trails. The Serre-Ponçon leisure centre is 3 km away.
