Off-season opening not confirmed: check the opening dates with the campsite before booking.
Quo Vadis Alpes du Sud, also called Quo Vadis Aero-Camping, occupies Serres La Bâtie-Montsaléon airfield in the Hautes-Alpes. The site is 4 km from the village of Serres, about 40 km from Gap and Sisteron and 40 minutes from the Dévoluy ski resort. Its main activity is gliding, run by the Eagles-ASA association since 2013, with the option of booking accommodation on site.
The offer includes a campsite and 13 chalets for 2 to 4 people, as well as a three-bedroom unit fitted out for guests with reduced mobility. The chalets have a kitchen and heating, but guests bring their own sheets, pillows and towels. They are booked by the week, from Saturday 4pm to the following Saturday at noon, through an online booking platform, before checking in at the airfield reception.
Opening period: no opening date for the campsite could be confirmed. The only hours published relate to the airfield reception: Monday to Thursday, from September to mid-February, and Monday to Saturday, except Wednesday, from February to October. They do not prove that the campsite welcomes holidaymakers in winter. The dates therefore need to be requested from the operator before planning an off-season stay, by email at contact@quovadis.aero or by phone on 04 92 67 10 80.
The campsite has two washroom blocks supplied with solar-heated hot water, one of them accessible to guests with reduced mobility. Electric hook-up posts are installed on the site, and an equipped kitchen is shared among campers, with a barbecue available. A washing machine and a motorhome waste-disposal point complete the offer, as does a mini library with free access.
The website also mentions a swimming pool. The pool’s opening periods are not stated on the pages consulted, and it is best to ask before your stay.
The chalets and the adapted unit are equipped with a kitchen and heating. Guests need to bring their own bed linen and towels, as sheet hire is not advertised. The campsite is designed for glider pilots, who can stay on site for the early-morning flights and follow the day’s briefings. No restaurant or shop is mentioned on the site: supplies are bought in Serres, about 4 km away.
The flagship activity is gliding: Serres airfield is the gliding site of the area, and the Eagles-ASA association has organised flights there since 2013. Pilots staying at the campsite gather at the briefings and share their flying experiences around the shared kitchen.
On the ground, the surroundings offer a good variety of outings: kayaking on the Buëch, climbing on the cliffs of Orpierre, paragliding, cycling and hiking on waymarked routes, including several GR trails. The village of Serres, 4 km away, is the nearest point for supplies and entertainment.
The Dévoluy and its ski resort are 40 minutes away, which may suit a winter chalet stay, subject to confirming that the accommodation is actually open at that time. Gap and Sisteron, 40 km away, are the nearest towns for shopping and sightseeing.
