Mulhouse Christmas Market 2026: dates, Étoffe de Noël and tips

Key takeaways

The Mulhouse Christmas market runs from late November to late December 2026 (20 November to 27 December according to the first announcements) on Place de la Réunion, Place des Cordiers and Square de la Bourse, with more than 90 artisans. Its speciality is the Étoffe de Noël, a fabric created every year to dress the city. Pair it with the Cité de l’Automobile and the Cité du Train.

Less well known than those of Strasbourg or Colmar, the Mulhouse Christmas market nonetheless has a unique identity in Alsace: every year the city creates an “Étoffe de Noël”, a printed fabric that dresses the chalets, the streets and the decorations, in tribute to its past as a capital of textiles.

2026 dates, locations, specialities, sights to combine and campsites open in winter for nearby accommodation: here is our guide to the Mulhouse Christmas market.

A Christmas market dressed in fabric

The heart of the market is on Place de la Réunion, at the foot of the Renaissance town hall with its painted façades and the Temple Saint-Étienne, and extends to Place des Cordiers and Square de la Bourse. More than 90 artisans offer decorations, textile creations, Alsatian products and treats.

Its signature is the Étoffe de Noël: a textile motif unveiled every year, printed on fabrics that decorate the chalets and streets and that you can buy as souvenirs. A tradition that recalls how Mulhouse was one of Europe’s major centres of fabric printing.

What to eat at the Mulhouse Christmas market?

As everywhere in Alsace, mulled wine, bredele, gingerbread and pretzels take centre stage. For a proper meal, a tarte flambée or a choucroute in a winstub in the centre will warm up the evening.

What to see in Mulhouse during the market?

  • the Cité de l’Automobile, one of the largest car museums in the world, with the Schlumpf collection;
  • the Cité du Train, a major railway museum in Europe, ideal with children;
  • the Musée de l’Impression sur étoffes, to understand the city’s textile history, which also holds its own Christmas market;
  • the Temple Saint-Étienne and the town hall, on Place de la Réunion.

Our tips for the market

  • Combine it with a museum: the Cité de l’Automobile and the Cité du Train easily fill a morning or an afternoon.
  • Come on a weekday to enjoy the market without the crowds.
  • Take the tram or the train: the station is a few minutes’ walk from the centre.
  • Push on to Colmar, less than 45 minutes away, to discover another major Alsatian market.

Where to stay at a campsite open in winter near Mulhouse?

Our selection does not yet list any campsite open in December in Haut-Rhin. The closest are in the Vosges, on the other side of the ridges, about an hour and a quarter from Mulhouse: at La Bresse, the Le Haut des Bluches campsite, and at Saulxures-sur-Moselotte, the base de loisirs du lac de la Moselotte. A way to combine Christmas markets with a mountain atmosphere.

Find all campsites open all year round in the Vosges, our guides to the Christmas markets of Colmar and Strasbourg, and our advice on camping in winter.

Our verdict

The Mulhouse Christmas market is a fine alternative to the big Alsatian markets: calmer, original with its Étoffe de Noël, and paired with exceptional museums. Plan a full day, between Place de la Réunion and the Cité de l’Automobile.
