Laroquebrou municipal campsite, which the tourist office calls Le Pré des Bains, borders the River Cère in a calm, green setting in the heart of the Cantal. The commune is rated a Petite Cité de Caractère and is home to a castle whose construction dates back to 981, a 13th-century bridge and a Gothic church. Lake Saint-Étienne-Cantalès, with its water activities, is close by.
The site offers 29 pitches, seven chalets for four people (one of them adapted for people with reduced mobility) and two gîtes for four people. The shops in the village are about 800 m away and a market takes place every Friday morning on the Place du Foirail. The rating advertised varies between two and three stars: it is best to check with the campsite.
Opening varies according to the type of accommodation. The chalets and gîtes are open all year round, with an off-season price list (from September to the end of June) and a package for business stays from Monday to Friday, excluding July and August. Caravans and motorhomes are welcome from mid-February to the end of September, while tents are only accepted from 1 May to 30 September. A one-month rate is available for pitches.
In August, the Boogie Woogie festival takes over all the chalets and gîtes, which are then reserved for its organisation.
Friday morning market, book fair in November, walks along the Cère and a visit to the medieval village, the castle and the 13th-century bridge.
The campsite relies on simple shared facilities. A common room has a television, a library and board games, with a fridge and a freezer available to residents. A laundry completes the facilities, and the pitches have water and electricity hook-ups (from €4 a day in 2025). Motorhome owners will find a waste disposal point and a service post, charged at €3 in 2025.
As for rentals, bed linen can be hired for €10 a bed and a cleaning package of €50 is available on request. Pets are accepted, with a €50 deposit for the accommodation and a supplement from the second animal. A €200 deposit is required for the chalets and gîtes, and a 25% deposit confirms the booking.
There is no swimming pool or restaurant on the site. To swim or enjoy the water, you need to go to nearby Lake Saint-Étienne-Cantalès, where pedalos and jet skis are available. Shopping is done in the village, 800 m away. Off-season, the permanent accommodation makes up most of the offer; the commune does not say whether the chalets and gîtes are heated, a point to check when booking.
On the site, children have a playground; adults can play pétanque, table football or table tennis, or get together over board games in the common room. The River Cère runs alongside the site, and the medieval village can be explored on foot from the campsite.
Around Lake Saint-Étienne-Cantalès, there are pedalos, jet skis, beach volleyball, a treetop adventure course and a Himalayan footbridge. Walkers can choose between the Quatre Châteaux loop, of about an hour, the La Roquaise route (14 km), the “Des quais aux rives du lac” mountain bike circuit (22 km) and the crossing of the Cère gorges (35 km). In summer, night-time lantern tours take place on Wednesday evenings, and the castle hosts exhibitions.
The local calendar marks the year: patron saint’s festival and international Boogie Woogie festival in August, book fair in November, plus the Friday morning market all year round. Off-season, these events and walks around the village make up the main programme.
Chalets and gîtes open all year round; caravan and motorhome pitches from mid-February to the end of September, tents from 1 May to 30 September.
