The Les Vignettes municipal campsite is at 27 rue Gérard-Gaunelle in Coutances, the sub-prefecture of the Manche department and a town of art and history dominated by its cathedral. It is run directly by the town and occupies a quiet site next to the sports park. The sea is about fifteen minutes away by car; Cherbourg is 80 km away, Caen 90 km and Rennes 125 km.
The site offers 80 pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes, as well as mobile homes for rent. The town hall publishes the rates online: €5 per night for a camper, €2.75 for a child under 7, €5 for the pitch with a car, €1.80 for a dog, €5 for a 10-amp electrical hook-up. Groups and associations pay €4.40 per night per person.
Open all year round: the town announces a campsite open all year, and its price list confirms it, since the mobile homes have their own rate for the period from November to February (€195 per week or €650 per month). A caravan storage space (garage mort) is also offered by the year or by the month, with a different monthly price in winter and in summer. Off-season, the campsite is therefore suitable for stays of a week or a month, for example for a business trip or a motorhome stopover.
Reception is open on weekdays from 11am to 12pm and from 6pm to 7pm, and at weekends from 10:30am to 11am. Information and bookings are available on 02 33 45 43 13.
In autumn and winter: forest trails, mushrooms, big winter tides, Journées nationales des artistes in October and a Halloween trail at the end of October.
The municipal campsite remains a simple facility: the town hall mentions no catering or entertainment on site. The published services are practical in nature. Each pitch can have a 10-amp electrical hook-up, charged at €5. Motorhome users have a dedicated rate, with waste water disposal and water supply for €5. A laundry works with tokens: one token at €4.80 for a wash cycle, another at €4.80 for a drying cycle.
For accommodation, mobile homes are rented by the week, with four price levels depending on the season: €195 from November to February (or €650 per month), €250 in March, April and October, €280 in May, June and September, then €400 in July and August. These prices exclude electricity and tourist tax. The household waste collection tax is added according to the rate in force.
The campsite also offers a caravan storage space (garage mort) for leaving a caravan between stays: €492 per year, or €60 per month from 1 October to 31 May and €96 per month from 1 June to 30 September. Dogs are allowed for €1.80 per night. Information on any heating of the washrooms or mobile homes is not published: it is best to ask before a winter stay.
The campsite does not offer organised entertainment; guests stay here mainly to explore the Coutances area. It stands next to the town sports park, so you can get some exercise without taking the car. In town, Coutances cathedral is the Cotentin’s flagship monument, and the Pays d’art et d’histoire du Coutançais offers tours all year round on the architectural and landscape heritage of the area.
The west coast is about fifteen minutes away by car. The sandy beaches of Agon-Coutainville and Annoville, the oyster beds and the foreshore are suited to shore fishing at low tide, walking or sand yachting. Cycling and hiking are possible on many routes in the region, and tourist guides also recommend forest trails in autumn, mushroom picking and watching the big winter tides.
The local calendar includes the Jazz sous les Pommiers festival, the Dahlia festival and several autumn events, such as the Journées nationales des artistes in October or a Halloween trail on 30 October. The Vauville botanical garden, with its palm trees and bamboo, rounds off the possible outings.
Open all year round according to the town of Coutances (winter rates published for the mobile homes from November to February).
